Frequently asked questions…

What is counselling?

Counselling at Hope and Harmony, is a talking therapy that can help you to come to terms with problems that you are facing in either your work or personal life. You can talk about your worries, concerns or anxieties in a safe, secure, non-judgemental and confidential way.  We are not here to fix things nor to tell you what to do or think, but, together with careful exploration and time, we will provide you with the right tools to see things/cope with things differently in a way that suits your individual needs and circumstances.

Why come to counselling?

Sometimes you want to change things that you are unhappy with in your life, other times it might be because you feel the need to come to terms with something, whatever your reasons it’s possible counselling could be the answer for you. It is the perfect space to feel comfortable and secure enough to explore those things that sometimes get pushed to one side, as we struggle to deal with them on our own.

How often will I need counselling?

At Hope and Harmony, we work with you as a unique individual, as everyone’s needs are different. Therefore, we do not set a time limit on the quantity of sessions that you need. It is purely based on your own individual requirements and circumstances. However, after 5 /6 sessions we will review your therapy and work together on a plan moving forward.

Why do I need a counselling contract?

A counselling contract is an agreement between the therapist and the client to set out how we will work together in a therapeutic relationship. The contract sets out the terms and conditions of the relationship including confidentiality, note taking and the client’s expectations.

What does confidentiality mean in counselling?

Confidentiality is extremely important within our therapeutic relationship. You must feel free to speak openly and honestly, feeling reassured that whatever you speak about in this space will remain confidential. However, we are bound by law to breach confidentiality if you disclose information relevant to the following factors:

a)         If you threaten to harm yourself or another person

b)         If we believe a child or protected adult is at risk of harm or abuse

c)         If the courts instruct us to give information

d)         If you share information about a proposed act of terrorism or another illegal act

What is the difference between telephone and face to face sessions?

Telephone counselling is a flexible way of accessing counselling – it can often take place at times to suit you and there are no travel costs or travel time. It can be particularly useful for anyone with limited time, limited transport or lots of responsibilities. It can also be useful if you wish to retain a degree of anonymity, if you wish to discuss anything that you fear would embarrass you if addressed face to face or even just to test the counselling therapy waters.

How much is counselling?

Counselling (face to face) sessions are £45 per 50 minutes.

Couple counselling sessions are £60 per hour

Telephone / video counselling is £40 per 50 minutes.

Payments are required to be made prior to the session via bank transfer, paypal or cash.
